Alien Round Robin
Michele and Kathy's Round Robin

When I first got this quilt, I was not quite sure what to do about it. The theme was "Space" and that middle block looked like it'd be a perfect Sun. I felt like the previous quilters really missed out on an opportunity to make a solar system by adding planets or stars each round. By the time I got it, It was far too late. I had thought about making a row of planets on either side the make the quilt back into a square, but I think they really wanted a rectangle. I noticed how there was a strong purple and orange theme going on. I know from Color Theory, a good triadic color scheme is Purple, Orange, Green. Well, there wasn't much green. I began digging through my green fabric bin and found some fabric from Paint Brush Studios with cute little "monsters" or aliens on it. However, I didn't have enough.
I put the quilt aside for now to think of what to do.
The next day it hit me. I needed to add a giant green Alien. I wanted him to look like he had made this quilt and was holding it up proudly for all his friends to see! In our Round Robin, one of the rules is that we can't do anything to the previous rounds without permission. However, I wanted to applique alien hands/tentacles over Anna and Ginger's sections. So I sent them this idea and asked if they'd be upset if I covered up part of their work. Anna was more than happy to lets me cover her mis-trimmed Friendship Stars, and Ginger thought the alien was perfect. So I got to work. After adding a large black border on the top and bottom, and a narrow border on the sides, I appliqued a giant alien face and tentacles and hands.
It was very hard for me to keep this a secret, but I wanted Kathy and Michele to see it for the first time in person. I showed no one else but Anna and Ginger for several weeks until we met again.

I did want to add a few more tenatacles, but I was running out of the right green (and teal) fabric. I also thought about adding a few little suction cups like my little sketch that I made, but I couldn't decide what color, so Ieft it for now.
